Experience the Future of Sustainable TIMBER Construction FirsthanD
Designing and Building Better with Timber (CHRISTCHURCH)
Mastering collaboration — from go to whoa
Timber Design Society and Mid-Rise Wood Construction share a common purpose — building a better future for New Zealand’s construction industry by inspiring innovation and empowering professionals to unlock the full potential of timber.
But achieving great outcomes with timber doesn’t come down to one discipline getting it right. Mass timber and timber-hybrid projects succeed when collaboration is done well — with designers, engineers, contractors and suppliers aligned, shared visibility of constraints, and the right conversations happening at the right times.
This seminar is designed to reduce the practical barriers that still slow timber uptake by providing a structured, end-to-end view of typical design and construction phases and sequences — and the collaboration required to deliver successful timber projects.
You’ll step through the process from Concept, Developed and Detailed Design, through to Construction — with expert speakers from different disciplines sharing the key considerations, learnings and insights at each stage.
Alongside the benefits and opportunities timber provides, the seminar will also address known challenge points that come with working with this extraordinary material — and share real build examples and practical strategies for managing them.
Our goal is simple: equip you with the confidence and know-how to collaborate through every phase of a timber project — for a smoother journey and a more successful build outcome.

Site Visit - Red Stag Industrial, Rotorua
SHOWCASING LOWEST CARBON INDUSTRIAL TIMBER BUILDINGS, THAT ARE NOW COST-EQUIVALENT WITH STEEL - COME FIND OUT HOW.
Red Stag Industrial is opening its doors to showcase a range of advanced timber industrial structures. This guided site visit is a chance to gain insight and see first-hand how timber can deliver cost-effective, large-span solutions for industrial applications.
The buildings that will be showcased are:
New mobile plant building - Utilising CLT portals and bracing
Sawmill trimline and stackers - showcasing mass timber across an existing production line.
RST Reman building - the first large span industrial building on site
Shed 3 - new 65-metre clearspan warehouse constructed with CLT and GLT
Red Stag will also present its latest innovation in large-span warehousing, which delivers cost advantages over traditional steel construction while offering the benefits of lighter foundations, accelerated project timelines, and reduced carbon emissions.
You do not have to attend the WoodWorks conference to attend the Red Stag site visit - all industry professionals are welcome.
Spaces are limited - register early and secure your place.
Mid-Rise Wood Construction and WoodWorks join forces
Last year, the WoodWorks Conference attracted over 200 leaders in engineered timber design and construction, with another brilliant line up expected on 4 & 5 this November.
With a shared focus to help facilitate the increase in capability and use of timber throughout New Zealand, WoodWorks & MRWC have partnered to add an additional site visit to the programme, on the final day.
Attendees will now have the option to choose between these projects:
3-storey library and community hub – the first building to be constructed as part of Te Manawataki o Te Papa, currently under construction on Willow Street in the heart of Tauranga.
Red Stag Industrial - a visit to the Southern Hemisphere's largest sawmill, and the leading producer of timber industrial buildings.
If you haven’t already, register for the WoodWorks Conference 2025 here.
